Voice Within: A Storybook by Storytellers
The Internalist
Have you ever found yourself in deep conversation with the voice inside your head? Simona Rosa takes us on a mesmerizing journey through her 2019 poem "The Internalist," created during a period of profound solitude in Bellingen, New South Wales.
Written before motherhood transformed her life, this poem emerged from four years of being single and traveling alone—a time when Simona discovered that "the internalist is your best friend, which is basically you." Through the poetic technique of anadiplosis, where the last word of each verse becomes the first of the next, she crafts a rhythmic exploration of self-dialogue that feels both intimate and universal.
The poem celebrates those sacred internal conversations we hold with ourselves, acknowledging our own "wisdom, guidance, conflicts, and defiance." With vulnerable openness, Simona explores how we simultaneously doubt and encourage ourselves with lines like "You ain't got this, but you got this." Her imagery of tears streaming down cheeks under a "scarlet sky" brings vivid physicality to the emotional landscape we navigate when truly alone with our thoughts.

Voice Within, a collection of short stories, letters and poems narrated to you. Get cosy, warm cup of tea in hand. Take your ears and imagination to places a number of authors aspire to take you with their tales. Hello, and welcome back to Voice Within. I'm going to share a little piece with you today. I wrote this piece in 2019.
Speaker 1:It's a poem and the type of poetry or the type of method that I in poetry is where the last word that I use is repeated at the beginning of the next verse. So just wanted to play with some words there. And I don't even remember 2019 where I was at. I know that I was in a small town called Bellingen, new South Wales. It was before I fell pregnant, so my life has completely changed and this concept of the is just something that I was deeply resonating with because I was very much on my own, travelling quite a lot for many years. I had been single for about four years until I met the father of my daughter and it was just one of those things it's like when you're alone so much, the internalist is your best friend, which is basically you. So I share this poem with vulnerability, but also with such pleasure as it has this play of words, so enjoy If you haven't subscribed already.
Speaker 1:There are some stories a collection of stories, I would say and poems and odes that are released every two weeks and these are narrated by the authors themselves, who are published in the Voice Within publication that has been running since 2020. There's two editions out and we've got submissions open now for the third edition, so just jump online to our website and have a look there. Now on with the poem Enjoy the Internalist. When you are called to feel, feel truthfully what travels within Within, there is a conversation you can uphold. Uphold with your highest regard, your own wisdom, your own guidance, your own conflicts, your own defiance, defiance to truly open up up to the skies of the love you deserve by your side. What do you deserve? To be cherished as a sacred being in my masculine and feminine being, being believing and feminine being being believing a soul to meet your love in union with another through heartfelt synchronicity. Synchronicity in its sound messages as they travel astral, astral, to the starlit sky.
Speaker 1:Each night, each night, night sky, take what I call upon down from the heavens. I call on their own. The presence, presence is all I can offer thee. True for what I feel I offer thee Be who I wish to encounter.
Speaker 1:As I raise my fists high to the calling, calling on the melancholy bequeathed taking hold, it travels within, within me, still not familiar with that feeling, this power, union of synchronized heartbeats. Heartbeats are so many, held with compassion and love. Love is where I hold all that hold me equally in awe. All is what I know.
Speaker 1:Know this, my fellow internalists we are not alone to hold the conversations with our own reckonings within. Within is all I have to go by. As I lift to what has gone by, I cry, cry those tears, lift those cheeks to the night sky. As the wetness streams your neck, eyes dampened to that scarlet sky. Sky is unlimited. Don't be stopped by disillusioned elusiveness. You ain't got this, but you got this. These are your own internal grievances, written by Simona Rosa.
