Voice Within: A Storybook by Storytellers
Just Like A Feather
What happens when we lose our seemingly magical abilities and must journey through the ordinary world to find extraordinary wisdom? This mesmerizing story follows a man who once walked on water but finds himself sinking to the depths where a sea spirit delivers his first lesson—that what he seeks lies within.
From that moment, everything changes. Unable to walk on water anymore, he must travel by land, encountering profound teachers in unexpected forms. A tree spirit speaks of love that honors one's true nature. A beautiful flower, picked thoughtlessly, teaches him about consequences and impermanence. The ocean waves whisper that crossing shores is impossible until he discovers what he seeks within himself.
The narrative reaches its emotional peak when the flower transforms into a woman who cycles through maiden, mother, and crone before his eyes. She offers herself as love transformed—but only if he can overcome his past and make a difficult choice. When he awakens back at his starting point, the sea spirit affirms his choice to return to his core self, gifting him with profound wisdom: "The power is not in taking what you want but in receiving."
Throughout this journey of transformation, we witness the universal struggle between desire and acceptance, between grasping and letting go. As listeners, we're invited to consider our own quests—what are we seeking outside ourselves that has always been within? And like the woman waiting across the lake, what opportunities for connection might we miss if fear holds us back or if we arrive too late?
Listen with an open heart and discover how this enchanting tale might illuminate your own path to finding what truly matters.

There once was a call in a pool by a man. Across the lake, he used to walk on water until one day he sunk to the bottom and found a sea spirit looking straight back at him. He wondered what he was doing at the bottom of the sea, and the sea spirit said to him you are searching for the breath of life and you can only go beyond, under and through it, through the waters, in order to seek it. So the man woke up from his dream and he found a little shell right next to his head, and this shell spoke to him deeply that what you seek is within you. Listen to the sound of the wind and it will come to you. And this message was one that he carried throughout his walks. The only problem from that day forward is that he could not walk on water any longer. He had to go through the lands in order to seek what was within him. He came to a tree spirit, and the tree spirit let him lay down and sleep and rest, and his dreams were as vivid as the day. Rest and his dreams were as vivid as the day. The tree spirit said it can no longer survive unless there's true love that reigns. Your mind has been toiled by love that takes you on a journey that doesn't honour you for who you are. But you will find that love.
Speaker 1:And so the man awakens from his dream state. He walks into a forest Unbeknown to him. He sees a rare, beautiful flower and picks it. The flower speaks back and he says why are you picking me from the garden of my home? Why are you taking me away from my forest? And the man says I'm so sorry. You were so beautiful. I didn't realize that I couldn't pick you. And the flower is like I'm going to die. Now Do you realize that You've taken me away from my home, which is the base of this tree, and now I will wither away? And now I will wither away.
Speaker 1:The man wanted to do everything that he possibly could to restore the life back into the flower, and so he went back to the tree spirit and he said tree spirit, you have to help me bring life back to this flower. And the tree spirit is what you seek, is within you. The flower will regenerate, but I don't know how to make this flower come back to life. It's not about the flower, it's about you. The man did not understand. So three days later, the flower finally withered away and he put the flower into the earth and he went for a long, long journey, seashell in hand, sea spirit in his ear and tree spirit in his heart. He walked many moons, many suns and he finally found himself faced to face with the ocean, and every wave spoke to him. You'll never seek beyond these shores unless you have found what you seek within.
Speaker 1:The man cried of all the loss he has experienced in his life and then a beautiful maiden comes to him and sits by him and transforms before his eyes to mother, to crone, back to maiden, to mother to crone, back to maiden, to mother, to crow, back to maiden. And these days and nights that felt forever, where he's witnessing the beauty of this woman as she would transform from wave to wave. She would transform from wave to wave. She whispers. All I have is my love. I am the flower that you picked and because you picked me, I've come back as a form that you can now come together with. I am strong, but I am also fragile, like the flower. I stand before you with love in my heart and sand in my feet to ask you to be mine. And the man, although he picked the flower knew that perhaps what was within him was far stronger.
Speaker 1:Now that the flower has turned into a form that wants to be with him and the ocean whispers, you have a choice, and what do you choose? Do you choose life in solitude, seeking the messages within, being confused by your past, grasping on to what did not last. Or you have in front of you an opportunity to be with what you've taken that has transmuted, or you can just walk back over the lake and go back to where you came from. The man was confused. He lay in the sand, closed his eyes and just wanted everything, every whisper, every vision, every memory to disappear, and it did. It disappeared so much so that, when he awakened, he found himself back across the lake and the sea spirit came up from the waters. That, when he awakened, he found himself back across the lake and the sea spirit came up from the waters and said oh, you have chosen wisely. You have chosen where you have come from. Which is you at the core? Now you can choose whatever you want in your life. You can choose love to be true, you can commit to the truth, or you can be left here with all the gifts that have been given to you a flower, a seashell and the whispers of the tree in the ocean. The man decided not to choose anything but to be grateful for what he's had, let go of what he's done, and relish in all the gifts, to be able to speak to trees and oceans and sea spirits and seashells and flowers. Able to speak to trees and oceans and sea spirits and seashells and flowers and maidens and mothers and crones. He realizes the power is not in taking what you want but in receiving, and he received openheartedly that all he seeked was always there.
Speaker 1:There was a beautiful woman waiting for him on the other side of the lake. She waited with her heart open but riddled with fear. Riddled so hard with fear that her words engulfed his being. She picked up a feather and put it in her hair. She picked up a feather and put it in her hair. She transformed into the biggest light and was translucent like the sand.
Speaker 1:She whispered to the man I cannot let go of this fear. It has taken me because the whispers of the trees and the oceans tell me stories that do not allow me to drop in. Until you have too, I am willing to receive your love. I am willing, here to be present with you, but you have to come wholeheartedly and know that we are fated otherwise. Otherwise I will disappear into sand and all I have to give you is this feather. Her love shone bright, waiting on the other side of the lake. The man's glimmer in his eyes remained. On the other side of the lake, the sea spirits, the oceans and trees waited for something to change, to shift, but it never did until one day the man walked over the water and found the feather lying into the sand, realizing that he didn't make it in time. But he was given one of the greatest gifts of all the flight and the lightness of being one with himself, being one just like the fellow.
